Book Café - The selection for July's Book Café meeting is The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg. This new irresistible comic mystery novel, about two women who are forced to reimagine who they are, spans decades and is centered on a little-known aspect of America's twentieth century story.
Mrs. Sookie Poole has just married off her last daughter and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps travelling. However her overbearing mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenbury, presents one more complication. By accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that throws her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future. Sookie's search takes her to California, the Midwest, and back in time to the 1940's when an irrepressible woman named Fritzi takes on the job of running her family's filling station. Soon truck drivers are changing their routes to fill up at the All-Girl Filling Station. Then Fritzi sees an opportunity and embarks on even more of an adventure, which leads present day Sookie to find new inspiration for her own life.
The July Book Cafe will meet from 1 pm - 2 pm on Thursday, July 6th.
Gibson Area Food Pantry -The Food Pantry is offering food bags during the summer that contain nutritious food that can be easily prepared.
